Paul Rome is Director of Technology Development at NightOwl Discovery, responsible for the development of NightOwl’s own technology for supporting client needs. At the time of our interview (at Relativity Fest in 2017) NightOwl’s product DecisionCenter was a contender for a Relativity Innovations Award.
DecisionCenter, Paul Rome said, was developed to help both project managers and document reviewers. Relativity is focused mainly at the matter level and at the workspace level. Corporate clients, especially those engaged in serial litigation (and often with the same custodians) are increasingly interested in looking across all their matters and at how decisions are made both in the aggregate and at the individual document level across multiple workspaces.
Attention to this results in both cost-saving and consistency. As Paul Rome says, if NightOwl can take 5% off the cost of review, then that can be significant.
Relativity is designed for extensibility, encouraging developments such as DecisionCenter. Paul Rome said that NightOwl had taken advantage of Relativity’s ability when integrating DecisionCenter, developing custom agents to use the Relativity API to access data and data objects both within a matter and across separate instances.
