David Greetham is VP of eDiscovery Sales and Operations at Ricoh Legal. Just before Legaltech, Ricoh launched Remlox Cloud, a system designed to enable the easy collection of discovery data. There is information about this here, and an explainer video here (and linked to below). I took the opportunity to talk to David Greetham to find out more.
David Greetham said that Remlox Cloud is derived from Remlox™ Remote ESI Collection tool which is designed for full forensic collection. It has been used in 37 countries, across six continents, and for several types of matters including cases involving the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and other government agencies.
Bearing in mind the recent changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, and the new emphasis on proportionality, Ricoh launched Remlox Cloud to enable clients to collect exactly what they need to collect and no more.
The user in this context is the custodian – not necessarily the lawyers and not technicians. The custodian gets built-in instructions, with Remlox Cloud pre-configured to collect exactly what is required and no more. This follows a discussion with the clients as to what ought to be collected.
There is a support line if needed, but, because the link is preconfigured, the custodian usually has to do no more than click on a link in order to move the relevant data securely to Ricoh’s cloud. There may be additional workflows along the way if additional actions are required.
While the ideal is that data is collected in a considered fashion, it is sometimes necessary to do it very quickly. It is, as I observed to David Greetham in this interview, a compelling selling message to lawyers that they can be working on their documents on the day they collect them.
Corporations are wanting to handle more of the eDiscovery process for themselves. Among Ricoh’s specialities is the provision of infrastructure as a service. Lawyers find it hard to manage the infrastructure, David Greetham says, and Ricoh is increasingly being asked to provide that in the cloud, for corporations as well as for law firms.
