ILTA Insight in London on 16 November

ILTA is the International Legal Technology Association and, although US led, has a strong commitment to the word “International” in its name. ILTA Insight is a one day conference which brings to London the spirit and ideas of ILTA’s main annual event, ILTACON 2017, held this year in Las Vegas.

The agenda covers a wide range of legal technology subjects. I am taking part in one of them called Managing data across the firm. The panel members are Vince Neicho of Integreon, Andrew Haslam of the London office of Squire Patton Boggs, and Emily Wyllie-Ballard of RPC. Our theme, as you may deduce from the title, is broader than electronic discovery in the context of disputes. Subjects include:

  • how firms are using tools, skills and providers for its own benefit and for clients beyond eDiscovery
  • the factors which influence decision-making as between in-house and external suppliers, agreements with providers and the options when work is divided up between clients, lawyers and providers
  • small firms and matters as well as large ones
  • the human aspect – recruitment and training among other things.

Two of our members have made the transfer between law firms, going in opposite directions. Andrew Haslam moved last year from being an independent consultant to going in-house at Squire Patton Boggs. Vince Neicho has recently made a change the other way, moving to Integreon after years at Allen & Overy.

Although we have devised our own agenda, we are happy to divert into any subjects which are raised by the audience, consistent with ILTA’s general approach, emblazoned on the Insider home page, that this event is one run by and for its members.
