Xerox Legal Business Services brings data analytics to litigation and compliance

xeroxxls1It is perhaps unsurprising to find Xerox Legal Business Services enhancing the data analytics capabilities of its Viewpoint eDiscovery platform. Xerox has been a leader in data analytics of all kinds for many years, with hundreds of data scientists at Xerox’s Analytics Resource Centre, Xerox PARC, and Xerox Research Centre Grenoble. As corporations and the lawyers bring ever more urgency to ever larger volumes of data, Xerox is bringing all that analytical skill and resource to all the subjects which fall under the heading “eDiscovery”.

I put it like that because the problem goes far wider than just eDiscovery for litigation purposes. The demands of regulatory investigations and internal investigations are often larger, more complex and more time-critical even than those for litigation, and the focus is as much on compliance across a wide range of industries and subjects as it is on litigation.

On the eDiscovery side, Xerox has launched Version 6 of its Viewpoint eDiscovery platform. Part of the aim is to ease and accelerate the culling of data for litigation, investigations and regulatory compliance matters. Version 6 includes dynamic visual reports providing new ways for users to organise, interact with, and visualise data to reduce the number of documents going through to review. There are also new visual tools which allow better monitoring of data processing performance.

Beth Fritts, Senior Vice President and Managing Director at Xerox Legal Business Services said an interview with Legaltech News (registered users only) that the aim is to “keep discovery efficient and costs low”. Users can “quickly identify the ‘who, what and when’ of complex email communications with simple graphic visuals and maps”. She added that
Viewpoint Assisted Review, the Viewpoint integrated technology-assisted review tool, “automates a wide range of document review activities, including review prioritization, culling, early case assessment and quality control.”

Viewpoint is only part of the range of eDiscovery management tools and services offered by Xerox Legal Business Services. Xerox also offers its long-standing hosted document review tool OmniX and managed legal document review services.

More recently, Xerox has added Relativity Hosted Review Services to its suite of eDiscovery platforms, and continues to add both services and Relativity-certified experts to help users on matters hosted with Xerox using the latest version of Relativity. The pairing of Relativity’s own functions with Xerox’s analytics services, project management and consulting expertise has obvious value for corporations and their lawyers.

In addition, Xerox Legal Business Services continues to contribute to wider understanding of related legal issues across many subjects and jurisdictions. Recent articles on the Xerox blog include one on the eDiscovery legacy of Judge Scheindlin, one on the new French data processing standard, and an interview with me on the UK Pyrrho predictive coding judgment. This small sample illustrates the very wide range of eDiscovery-related subjects on which Xerox is an authoritative player.
