NightOwl Discovery, based in Minneapolis, has been providing discovery services for corporations and law firms for many years.
I had the opportunity to interview its president, Tom Palladino, while at EDI in New Orleans and I asked him about to explain the benefits, both to NightOwl and to the corporations, of working directly for the end client rather than through law firms – it is not, as Tom Palladino makes clear, that NightOwl does not happily work for law firms, but the bulk of its business is directly with clients.
In many ways, the benefits are obvious. The discovery provider can acquire an understanding of how the company keeps its data and a relationship with those responsible for it. It becomes possible to develop repeatable workflows and, as Tom Palladino puts it, to justify investment in the client whose value can be spread across multiple projects.
I did another interview with Tom Palladino while I had the chance, about NightOwl’s presence in the EU.
