At kCura’s Relativity Fest in Chicago, I met Richard Lutkus, a partner at Seyfarth Shaw, and asked him why he attends Relativity Fest. The answer is perhaps unsurprising – that Relativity Fest offers the opportunity to keep up with what kCura is doing and with the wider aspects of running a strong technology-aware legal practice, including mixing with others who face the same challenges.
Seyfarth Shaw’s role for clients is not limited to the reactive task of managing eDiscovery matters as they arise. It is also heavily involved in advising clients on how to manage their data and in the wide range of functions which fall under the umbrella of information governance.
Richard Lutkus gave me an example of a data management exercise which Seyfarth Shaw undertook for a client using Relativity for tasks which were not needed just for eDiscovery purposes. It may have been designed for a particular purpose, but there are plenty of other uses for a customisable relational database system.
